Friends of Noorie

We have embarked on The Adventures of Noorie, a journey that brings together a diverse network of musicians, writers, and translators who have collaborated with Maraa over the years. This initiative is deeply rooted in our commitment to sustaining artistic communities, particularly those whose voices and livelihoods have been impacted by socio-political and economic upheavals.

A key focus of this project is to support musicians whose means of sustenance were severely affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these artists continue to struggle with the aftershocks of financial instability, making it increasingly difficult to sustain their creative practice. By working closely with them, we aim to provide not just economic support but also a platform to amplify their work and ensure their art remains a living, evolving force in the world.

Additionally, in an era marked by rising exclusion, violence, and systemic suppression of dissenting voices, numerous musical traditions are at risk of being erased or censored. Many of these traditions belong to marginalized communities, carrying within them histories, resistances, and ways of being that challenge dominant narratives. Through this initiative, we seek to document, celebrate, and protect these musical legacies, creating spaces where they can continue to thrive despite the forces that seek to silence them.
